What to Expect
The activity will last around 1.5 hours. Participants will be required to sign a disclaimer on the day (and for those under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign on their behalf).
You will be given a quick intro and safety briefing before getting to the fun part - learning to wield a sword, effective defence, grappling, disarms and much more.
What kind of swords do you use in your sparring sessions?
For sparring exercises, we use Rawlings Nylon Competition Sparring Swords. These are swords used in most historical fencing competitions for use with full contact duelling. They are made of sturdy nylon with a rigid steel bar core and plenty of flex to imitate that of a tempered blade.
For drills against a target, we use federschwert (feather swords). Don't let the name fool you. These 15th century duelling sword are made of tempered steel and were used to train knights in the art of fence.
Please see the 'book session' page for availability. Full Payment is required at time of booking, via bank transfer. If booking as a stag, Hen Do or private party, we will accept a deposit as we understand it can be difficult to collect money from other people. Any balance must be made in full on the day (Cash).
We can host up to 10 people per session. For larger groups, please call us to discuss.
What should I wear?
Please wear closed-toe footwear to ensure your feet are covered, and footwear that is suitable for the outdoors, you may get muddy. Wear something comfortable and loose enough to allow for a full range of movement. Something you do not mind getting dirty.
Please do not wear anything you could lose during the session e.g. rings, ear rings, expensive watches etc.
Our area is on a flat grassy pitch of land. We are able to accommodate wheelchairs and we have instructed people with a range of disabilities.
If special arrangements may be necessary, please let us know in advance and we will take reasonable steps to assist.
Spectators are welcome but must follow our safety rules and must remain a metre or so from the ropes of the arena as participants are known to get a little excited and occasionally swing their sword over the barriers during exercises.
We have a 3 day cancellation policy.
We reserve the right to cancel the session due to inclement weather, however conditions would have to be pretty extreme for this to happen.
If using vouchers, we will only reschedule the session if we have been given advance warning of up to 48 hours, unless the voucher has not been redeemed or is past its expiry date. If cancelled on the day, I'm afraid you will lose your activity slot.
We have a BBQ area for private group bookings only (stag, Hen parties, birthday groups and corporate). Please contact us to reserve this area. You will need to provide your own food and charcoal. If you do use our BBQ area, please tidy up after yourselves. Thank you.
